Blocksi - Parent Dashboard
SDUSD has recently started using Blocksi, a class management tool that allows teachers to control the Chromebooks in their classroom. We’re beginning to test the parent dashboard feature which allows parents to control their child’s Chromebook when it’s off campus in the following ways:
Block websites or turn off Internet access
View your child’s web history
View detected safety alerts for self-harm and threats
This short video explains in further detail how to use the parent dashboard.
We recommend using the web interface, but the Blocksi Parent app is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
To start using the parent dashboard, go to parent.blocksi.net and follow the instructions below. You must sign in with the email address you have in PowerSchool.
Sign In Using a Gmail Account
If the email account you have in PowerSchool is a gmail account, you can click the Sign in with Google button.
After entering your Google credentials, you will be logged into Blocksi.
If you receive a message asking you to wait for administrative approval, your request will be approved within 1 business day, only if your gmail account matches the email address in PowerSchool.
Sign In Using a Non-Gmail Account
If the email account you have in PowerSchool is not a gmail account, click the Register here button.
Fill out the form using the email address you have listed in PowerSchool, and the student email address of your child. This will be their student ID number followed by @stu.sandi.net (example: 123456@stu.sandi.net). You can find your child’s student ID number in PowerSchool.
After completing the form and clicking Create account, you will receive an email from Blocksi asking you to verify your email.
After clicking the verification button in the email, you will be signed into the Parent Dashboard.
Disable Internet Access
This will not work while the Chromebook is connected to the school district’s network. To completely disable Internet access on the Chromebook, follow the steps below.
Click the Dashboard button in the top left corner
Toggle on the Pause Internet button
Block Websites
This will not work while the Chromebook is connected to the school district’s network. To block websites, you must create a list of sites then apply it to your child. Follow the steps below.
Click Exception List in the top left menu
Type the name of your list and click Create List
The list appears below, click on the pencil icon to edit it
Enter a website to block and click Add to List
To apply the block list, click the Dashboard button in the top left menu
Select the list under the Exception List section of the Users Table
View Your Child’s Web History
You can view all web history from your child’s district account by clicking Insights in the top left menu. Click the clock icon in the top right corner to change the time frame and see up to a year of web history. To see detailed logs, click Web Analytics in the top left then select Logs.
View Potential Threats to Your Child’s Safety
Selecting Areas of Concern in the top left menu will show potential safety threats by scanning your child’s emails, searches and Google documents for text relating to self-harm, threats, cyberbullying and toxicity as well as violent or adult images.
The time frame can be changed at the top of the page to view up to a year of flagged text and images.
